Inspiration for the name Last Spike Brewery
We took our name from the ceremonial final spike driven into the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in Craigellache, BC, not more than 300 kilometres west of Calgary. On November 7, 1885, Canada celebrated the completion of this illustrious railway; a four-year, grueling endeavor that united our country from sea to sea.
Alexander J. Ross’s famous photograph of CPR financier Donald Smith driving in the final silver spike adorns the wall of our brewery as a reminder to celebrate our past while continuing to innovate for our future.
